I really enjoyed playing this tournament last year. I got a sweet shirt in the players pack and lunch was provided. I remember the deli sandwiches that were for lunch being delicious. The Roselle park district hosted a great Pitner event last year.

I am excited for another great event!

Is the course a full permanent 18 now?

The course will be a permanent 16 for the tournament.  You'll have your regular 9, then 7 across the street, and then I have to add 2 temps - one that makes it a shorter walk to get across the street and one again when you return.

There are still plans to give a free lunch, but instead of a shirt and custom stamped tourney disc, we're going with a $15 player pack similar to my other tournaments to pick your own player pack.  If you want, I'm sure they will bring out last year's shirt and make it available.  I still have discs left from last year as well.  It's just too difficult to predict the number of people showing up when ordering discs and shirts.

Make sure to contact them before August 1st to get the cheapest entry fee!

I think I'm going to only have 2 temp holes - I was thinking 3, but bringing 3 baskets is a pain sometimes.  As long as the bees aren't there, it will be the same hole from the concrete area near the baseball field down to where the willow trees are, and then another hole from after you come back across the street playing into the baseball field.  The round will be flow playing the full 9, then playing temp basket 1, the 7 across the street, and then temp basket 2.

I have no idea how many cards there will be, but I'll try to make sure that everyone is starting on a hole that isn't a super long walk.

so the additional $10 gets you the rule book and a number?

was the $10 extra for the city of lights (for non PDGA members) supposed to get us the same thing?

Thanks

You're supposed to get a number and a rule book, but quite honestly, I haven't seen proof that the PDGA is doing this yet.  As long as I have the name and address, I submit it all to the PDGA as they request.  It's up to them to take it the extra step.

For each tournament that you are not a current PDGA member, however, the $10 fee still applies each time.  You can sign up for the PDGA at any time (either online, through the club, or with me), and the $10 fee instantly goes away (it is not retroactive).  It's $45 through the club, so if you plan on playing a bunch of tournaments, it's worth it!

Getting to the course:
Park at the elementary school - from Rt 20 take Bryn Mawr Rd north (the only direction you can go)  to the stop sign at Rodenburg, take a left, just past the stop sign there's an elementary school.  Follow the sign that says "Cars only" into the parking lot, park at the far end of the parking lot near the path.  Walk down the path, and the tee for hole one is by the baseball field.  You should be able to see tournament central as soon as you enter the parking lot.

They have 5 out of the 7 baskets installed in Chatburg Park.  The concrete is poured and anchor installed for another one, and the hole is dug for the 7th basket.  They should be set by tomorrow evening.

At first when my brother and I were trying to figure out the holes they sucked.  By the time we walked around just about the entire park, we realized that we were trying to play the course backwards.  Then things started to click more.  You go in a counterclockwise circle around Chatburg park as opposed to clockwise like at the tournament.  There are DEFINITELY some tight areas close to homes.  That will all just be casual OB.  I'm going to try to take some time to get out there again on Saturday with some paint and flags to mark the tees better and then paint arrows to help navigate.  It's a HUGE wide open park, the course plays the perimeter in and throughout the trees.  Considering what they have been given the course over there is ok, but they could have done a lot in Goose Lake Park as well.

Anyway, I'll update a Google Map and post that here tonight so that people have a better idea of course routing.  If the bees aren't there this year, I'm going to put tournament central near the willow trees to try to stay in the shade!

Google Maps Course Layout:

2 temp holes, 16 permanent baskets.  You're going to play hole 1, then play 1A - 1I (including everything across the street), then play 2 - 9.

considering that people FROM the park district will be there handling registration and helping run the event, you might not want to bring along any adult beverages ;)  But yeah, stay hydrated on Sunday!

Thanks for signing up :)  I have no idea what the turnout is going to be like.

touche, and btw the sign-up was a bit of a pain. not that this was your handle. I tried to call and register over the phone but appearently you cant do that. I had to print it out, fill it out, and fax it in. I dont have a fax so I had to look around for one. The only downside is that I made mention on the fax cover sheet to email a confirmation for the registration for my buddy and I and I havent received anything yet. I will have to call tomorrow i guess and find out if they are open on weekends aside from events

i already reported to the guy at the park district how much of a pain it is to register.  He didn't seem to care that much.  You would think that they would be more than happy to take a registration over the phone.

If anything, bring a copy of your fax set confirmation with you on Sunday, I'll vouch for you that you got it in before Sunday, and we should be able to get things worked out.

hopefully we'll get an ok turnout - I have no idea what to expect for day of the event registration.  I've been asking them to drop the price to $35 at the event instead of $40 and have been ignored, so who knows.

At least I've set the rates for the player packs and payouts.  Feel free to give me any comments that you may have about the event.  Good gravy is it going to be hot... they just put down new black top at the elementary school this week.  It's going to be stinky! - at least when you're playing there will only be 1, maybe 2 holes that's near the parking lot.
